This was written in the mid nineties. I felt by then that many people thought of me as someone much more than I actually am. I wasn't sure if they were still trying to groom me or what. All I wanted to say with this song back then was that I am just a simple man and want to live a simple life. I am not a spitfire or a hero or a villain. I am just a man.
lyrics
I am not the undertow
I respire gently
In they come and out they go
Diamonds are not plenty
I can’t believe where I’ve
Is it really through me
In it drown the seas I swim
Waves all around me
‘Cause I am not the undertow
You can live without me
I have lived some years before
See the past surround me
If I listen to the pavement
I can hear them laughing
So I go on and be the same
They cannot change me
‘Cause I am not the undertow
