I remember when my father's father died and how he felt about it. It was the closest I saw my father being emotional. I actually wrote this song soon after that in 1976. I was 19.
I understood back then what it meant to the emotions. Of course I used poetry to get my thoughts across. I hope can see what I was trying to say.
lyrics
The evening tells us never – the morning says she may
Through this all a song stands clear of warning of a day
The hostile children flourish abandoning the way
And parents are invited to have just one more day
Now the child has turned to parent and all its children slaves
Reaching back in memory of when they were the same
Still the hope is for the future so please increase my pay
Because of your misguiding we’ve just one more day
Lately I have noticed that what they say is true
The past is unchangeable while rest is up to you
You’d play around forever if I would not say
The tension’s building thoughts compile
For I’ve just one more day
One more day running out of time
I can’t say when you’ll be mine
For I give to you a prophet and throw my soul away
I’ve heard the devil cry my name ‘John’
You’ve just one more day
The evening tells us never – the morning says she may
Through this all a song stands clear of warning of a day
When the hostile children flourish abandoning the way
And parents are invited to have just one more day
