In 2005 I questioned myself a lot. That was the year I did most of the inner work and this song became an anthem for me. It has healing powers and I hope others who are suffering with depression can use this song to help them realize that who we are is not always what we are.
This was also the beginning stages of my de-conversion. The final verse proves that.
lyrics
If I were a man
Could I take your hand?
Would you hold me ‘till the morning bright?
If I were a man
If I were a child
With no reason to be mild
Would you love me even though I drowned?
If I were a child
If I were a tree
Could I make you see?
Crowning my wisdom across this ancient land
If I were a tree
If I were the ground
Would I then be found?
I could take you to another time
If I were the ground
If I were a lake
It would be no mistake
I could caress you naked and alive
If I were a lake
If I were the air
Would you even care?
Could you breathe me deep into your soul?
If I were the air
If I were the sun
Would you know I’ve won?
Could I protect you from my burning stare?
If I were the sun
If I were a god
Would you claim I’m flawed?
Could you believe me even in my doubt?
If I were a god
